The Family of a Senator ~ Prompt #024
Title: The Family of a Senator
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Obi-Wan, Padme, Sola, Ruwee, Jobal
Prompt: Family
Word Count: 339
Rating: PG
Summary: Pretend that Obi-Wan and Anakin's missions in AOTC were reversed. Keep the fact that Anakin has a Thing for Padme, and Obi is uber-Jedi.
Author's Notes: I swear this is the only thing I could think of for this prompt, given the fact that I had the added, self-given stipulation of setting it during AOTC. And obviously based on the deleted scene.
------------
Obi-Wan watched the banter between Padme and her family. This was certainly a side of the Senator that he had never seen before. It never occurred to him that she could fit in this environment. Family life seemed too delicate for such a strong and resilient woman. He found it fascinating, seeing her in a place so far removed from the cares and troubles of a Senator's world.
And the Naberrie family was obviously thrown off his Jedi-origins by his civilian garb.
"Did you know that you're the first boyfriend my dear sister has ever brought home, Obi-Wan?" Sola said suddenly, catching Obi-Wan off-guard.
He felt himself blush. At least the disguise was working. He just wished that Sola hadn't said it while his mouth was still full. He tried not to choke. Amazing. Do I really look that young?
Padme looked horrified at the pronouncement. "Sola! He's not my boyfriend! He's a Jedi Master. The Senate thought it would be wise to assign a member of the Order to protect me."
Jobal paled. "A Jedi Master?! Oh dear, I knew that the situation was bad, but bad enough to warrant a Jedi Master...?"
"Mom," Padme said in a placating tone. "It's not that bad."
"Is it?" Jobal asked Obi-Wan. "Is it that bad?"
Obi-Wan wiped his mouth with a napkin. "I'm afraid it might be," he said slowly. He didn't get a chance to say anything else.
"Oh, Padme!" Jobal was suddenly all maternal concern. "I told you it was too dangerous to continue..."
Ruwee finally cleared his throat, stopping his wife's impending tirade. "Now, now, dear. Padme obviously believes that the risks are worth it. And she is in good hands." He nodded in Obi-Wan's direction, a vote of confidence in the Jedi's abilities.
Jobal didn't look the slightest bit mollified. But she sat and ate silently, anyway.
Obi-Wan sighed inwardly, smiling shyly at Padme, who gave him a look of fond exasperation.
"Welcome to my family," she whispered.
